A
lot of what I love about this business is knocking around ideas with other cattle people about how to make a living doing what we love to do. The following tips -
some practical, some more philisophical - have served me well.
1. Set both long AND short-term goals. Review and modify them from time to time.
2. Change: It is only good if it improves your business.
(Or, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.)
3. Just because your Dad and/or Granddad did it that way doesn’t mean you need to.
4. You MUST leave your own back yard to infuse your operation with some of the
great ideas that are out there.
5. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Unless, of course, it is not asked.
6. It takes a lot more energy to dwell on the negative than the positive.
7. Just because you pay a lot of money for a cow doesn’t make her a DONOR!
8. FEED: Buy a set of scales and use them! Constantly changing rations = poor performance.
9. Live by The Code of the West!
10. The Key to Marketing: You must believe in your own program, before you can convince others. |
